How to Apply for a Thailand Visa

Check whether a visa is required

The MFA’s current published visa-exemption scheme grants up to 60 days to 93 listed countries and territories from 15 July 2024. A Cabinet-approved replacement announced in May 2026 is not yet effective: Consular Affairs says it starts only after implementing Ministry of Interior notices are published in the Royal Gazette and 15 days have elapsed. A verified commencement date has not been established. Check the current MFA nationality list immediately before travel and see the monitored exemption guide. Do not use proposed country lists as active law.

Application workflow

  1. Identify the correct route. Match the passport, place of application, purpose and intended stay to the current official route.
  2. Use the official service. Start at thaievisa.go.th and select the responsible embassy or consulate. If the route is not available online, use the official mission’s published instructions.
  3. Read the issuing post’s checklist. Documents, translations, financial evidence, appointment rules, fees, payment methods and processing estimates vary by post and visa category.
  4. Submit accurate information. Ensure names, passport details, purpose and supporting records match. Do not send documents to an unofficial intermediary merely because it appears in search results.
  5. Track through the official channel. Respond to requests from the issuing post and do not buy non-refundable travel based on an unconfirmed processing estimate.
  6. Check the issued approval. Follow the issuing post’s instructions for presenting the e-Visa or visa evidence to the carrier and border authority. This site does not state that a paper printout is universally required.
  7. Complete TDAC separately. A visa approval does not replace the mandatory TDAC or guarantee admission.

No universal fee, timing or document matrix

This page intentionally does not publish a universal price, turnaround time, balance threshold, passport-validity rule or document list. Those details depend on the visa, passport, residence and responsible post and can change. The current official application screen and issuing-post notice control.

If the case involves work, retirement, study or family status

Use the relevant official category and obtain case-specific confirmation where needed. A visa and permission to work are distinct. Do not infer work authorization, insurance conditions or extension eligibility from a general web guide.
