Last substantive review: 21 September 2026. This page separates authority-specific workflows and does not certify eligibility or policy acceptance.
Insurance evidence is not a universal requirement for every Thai visa or extension. The applicable rule depends on the exact category, where and how you apply, and the authority handling the case. A Thai embassy or consulate handles many visa applications abroad; BOI handles LTR qualification; Immigration Bureau offices handle in-country stay and extension processes. Do not buy a policy based only on a visa family name such as Non-O or Non-B.
Before you rely on a coverage amount
- Identify the exact visa or extension category and application location.
- Open the current checklist from the competent authority handling that application.
- Confirm the required coverage, policy period, territory, insurer eligibility, certificate wording and permitted alternatives directly with that authority.
- Ask the insurer or licensed broker to identify the exact policy wording that responds to each requirement. Neither a comparison listing nor OIC licence status proves visa acceptance.
Verified example: BOI Long-Term Resident visa
The versioned BOI LTR Wealthy Pensioner document dated 6 November 2025 gives named evidence alternatives for that program and version. It is not a universal insurance rule. Category, applicant, dependent and current-version rules differ; check BOI's current required-document material before applying.
Verified example: Non-Immigrant O-A application abroad
The Royal Thai Embassy Doha publishes a versioned, post-specific O-A insurance example. Its amounts, evidence format and alternatives must not be generalized to other visas, posts, extensions or products. Check the exact post processing the application immediately before submission. See the Royal Thai Embassy Doha checklist.
Other visa and extension categories
No general insurance minimum is stated here for Tourist, visa-exempt, Non-Immigrant O, Non-Immigrant B, work-permit or extension cases. Use the current authority checklist for the exact transaction. Employer benefits and work-injury/social-security arrangements are separate questions and must not be described as a general work-permit insurance requirement.
Documents
Submit only the documents and format requested by the competent authority. Do not assume every case requires original letterhead, a seal, translation, authentication, a particular certificate, or whole-visa-period coverage. Confirm names, policy dates, territory, amounts and certificate wording against the current checklist and obtain written clarification where it is ambiguous.
Public-scheme eligibility, current facility status, private policy cover and provider access are separate questions. Confirm each one in the responsible authority, scheme, insurer and provider record; this page makes no eligibility, accreditation, network or direct-billing determination.
Information and referral boundary
This is general information, not immigration, legal, insurance or financial advice. Thailand Expat Services does not certify a policy as suitable, compliant or accepted. If requested, we may coordinate an introduction to an independently licensed provider or broker. We will disclose any fee, commission or other benefit before you submit contact details or request an introduction. Verify licence status through OIC and acceptance with the competent visa authority.
